Premiering next week in New York and elsewhere is the Marvel superhero movie Iron Man, based on the comic book story of inventor and industrialist Tony Stark, who builds a powered suit and uses it to save the world on a regular basis.
It says a lot as to the rehabilitation of the defence industrial base in the post 9/11 security environment that the films hero runs a defence corporation.
The movie positions Stark Industries as the premiere weapons supplier to the DoD and Afghan warlords and shows various combat systems as being part of the business portfolio, such as the F-22 Raptor, F-16 and, I think, the old Chaparal SAM missile being reinvented as the 'Jericho' - a smart guided cluster bomb-type weapon.
From a humourous standpoint the font and logo used on the weapons cases in the film looks a distinct cross between Boeing and Lockheed Martin. What do you think ?
