FOR HE’S A JOLLY GOOD FELLOW…
Lancashire – Simon Howison, Engineering Director at BAE Systems Military Air Solutions business in North West England, is one of a select group of engineers to have been elected to the Royal Academy of Engineering for 2008.

He joins some of the UK's most eminent engineers working to provide independent and impartial advice to Government; secure the next generation of engineers; and provide a voice for Britain's engineering community.

Academy President Lord Browne of Madingley said: "Our new Fellows are among the very best engineers working in the UK today. They are pushing the technical boundaries across the most challenging fields from medical imaging to aeronautics and energy technology. Together they demonstrate that engineering is at the heart of modern society."

On hearing the news, Simon, who is originally from Bridgewater in Somerset, said: "To be elected to such an important and prestigious body is a personal honour. It is also recognition of the size, scope and complexity of the company’s capabilities and I am incredibly proud to be representing BAE Systems in the Academy."

Simon who currently shares his time between his home in Sunningdale, Berkshire and Warton near Preston where he works, joins three other BAE Systems ‘Fellows’ in the Academy including BAE Systems Chairman Dick Olver, Military Air Solutions’ Science and Technology Director Lambert Dopping-Hepenstal and, also elected this year, John Hudson, Engineering Director, for the Astute nucleur-powered submarine programme.

Founded in 1976, The Royal Academy of Engineering promotes the engineering and technological welfare of the country. Among the 44 elected this year, as well as Simon and John, are pioneering engineers such as Queen Mary 2 designer Stephen Payne, international development champion Jo da Silva from Arup, and John Loughhead, leader of the UK Energy Research Centre.
