Navy Awards Contract to Raytheon for Continued Support for LPD 17
TEWKSBURY, Mass., Oct. 22, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has been awarded a U.S. Navy contract for up to $23 million for lifecycle engineering and support for the LPD 17 class of amphibious warfare ships.
This award exercises the third of three one-year options included in the original contract awarded to Raytheon in 2005.
"Raytheon continues to build on its history of solid performance on the LPD 17 program, from electronics system design and ship integration to whole life support," said Robert Martin, IDS' vice president and deputy of Seapower Capability Systems. "As program milestones continue and more ships enter the fleet, our experience and expertise will help to maximize the capabilities, reliability and readiness of the ships of the LPD 17 class."
In addition to the prime contractor role for lifecycle engineering and support for integrated shipboard electronics, IDS is the total ship electronics systems integrator for the LPD 17 program. The company provides the Shipboard Wide Area Network, integrated product data environment, total ship information management, and integrated ship electronics architecture for the LPD 17 class of ships.
By leveraging the open architecture design and transformational technology advancements achieved as the Mission Systems Integrator on the Zumwalt, LPD 17 class and CVN ship programs, Raytheon continues to support the application of common technologies, processes and technology refresh across multiple platforms in the fleet.
Raytheon's work on the LPD 17 program is performed at the Expeditionary Warfare Center, San Diego, Calif.; Seapower Capability Center, Portsmouth, R.I.; and by Raytheon Technical Services Company in New Orleans and San Diego.
