FALLS CHURCH, Va., -- General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) today named Greg Gallopoulos senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective January 1, 2010. Gallopoulos, 50, will succeed David A. Savner, who is retiring after nearly 12 years of service in that role.

"David Savner has made an invaluable contribution to General Dynamics' success over the past 12 years," said Jay L. Johnson, president and chief executive officer. "Under his leadership the legal affairs of General Dynamics have been executed with a discipline and integrity that enhanced both the company's reputation and its competitive positioning. In addition, David's counsel and legal acumen have been instrumental in the company's ability to implement an aggressive capital-deployment strategy that included more than 50 acquisitions around the world, creating significant value for General Dynamics' shareholders."

"Looking ahead," Johnson continued, "we are confident that Greg Gallopoulos will successfully build on the strong legal-affairs team which, as deputy general counsel, he has helped guide over the past year and with which he has worked for many years as a trusted outside counsel. Greg has broad experience as a litigator, in mergers and acquisitions and as a manager with responsibility for growing and maintaining a profitable business, enabling him to bring a unique point of view to the table as part of General Dynamics' senior management team."

Gallopoulos joined General Dynamics as vice president and deputy general counsel in August 2008. Previously, since January 2005, he had been managing partner of Jenner & Block LLP in Chicago. Before then, Gallopoulos served in several management capacities at the firm and represented General Dynamics in a wide variety of litigation matters, including government contracts, commercial contracts, tax, securities, divestitures and acquisitions.

Gallopoulos received his juris doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School and received his A.B. degree from the University of Michigan, College of Literature, Science and the Arts.

Savner joined General Dynamics in 1998. Previously he was a senior partner in Jenner & Block where he was involved in General Dynamics' legal affairs. Savner earned a bachelor's degree in history from Northwestern University in 1965 and a juris doctor degree from that school in 1968. He is a member of the American Bar Association, serving in the section for Corporation, Banking and Business Law; and the Chicago Bar Association. He is a director of Everybody Wins!, a Washington, D.C.-based reading and mentoring program.
