NAVY

The MK 48 Mod-1 LMG is a compact, man-portable, belt-fed, air-cooled weapon system that is capable of engaging targets out to 1,000 meters. This weapon system is extremely rugged, highly reliable, corrosion resistant, and capable of being maintained and operated by one man in combat. Work will be performed in Columbia, S.C., and is expected to be completed by January 2011. Contract funds in the amount of $11,498,167 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
