Raytheon Leads Efforts to Build a Scalable, Interoperable Analytics System to Aid Defense

LINTHICUM, Md., - Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) is leading efforts with industry, national labs and commercial partners to build a new analytics system that readily scales to trillions of entities in a highly extendable, distributable framework to meet the world's rapidly changing security needs.

"With nearly a third of all humans on the Internet, the civil, commercial and military worlds are swimming in data – in fact, too much data," said Steve Hawkins, vice president of Raytheon's Information Security Solutions business. "It is imperative for today's defense establishment to ensure both scalability and interoperability when deriving actionable intelligence from the increasingly staggering volumes of intelligence data coming in to the various branches of government."

Raytheon's rapid-information overlay technology for extreme-scale analytics is being shared with industry and government in an effort to create an interoperable service platform for developers and analytics suppliers. "This new industrial base can rapidly host both new and legacy analytics on a highly scalable framework to accommodate changing mission needs at cyber speed," said Dr. J.C. Smart, chief technology officer for Raytheon's Intelligence and Information Systems business. He has worked at the forefront of research, integration and implementation efforts during a national laboratory, government and industry career spanning 30 years.

"The keys to Raytheon's efforts are its broad, inclusive teaming arrangements and its open software development," Smart said.

Raytheon and its partners offer a diverse range of powerful analytics tools and services, including collection target-planning analysis; data collection, extraction and exfiltration; source analysis and cognitive reasoning; intelligence product distribution; and knowledge base development.

"Analytics is the key to outmaneuvering our adversaries in the face of the staggering volume, variety and velocity of information in cyberspace," Hawkins said. "Raytheon understands that collaboration is critical to success in cryptoanalysis and cyberspace for both offense and defense."
