OCT 30-01: USS MICHIGAN Project Completed Five Days Ahead of Schedule

WASHINGTON – USS Michigan (SSGN 727) undocked in late October, five days early at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF).

Michigan was at PSNS & IMF for a planned five-month major maintenance period. While Michigan’s maintenance availability was scheduled in advance, the full extent of the necessary work isn’t always known until the ship is drydocked.

“The PSNS & IMF artisans have walked the walk supporting the Warfighter with a quality product delivered early. Michigan now stands poised and ready for her first deployment with the Trident maintenance plan objectives successfully met, corrective maintenance work accomplished and a state-of-the-art modernization package installed and tested,” said William Fortier on behalf of Capt. Kenneth Voorhees, Commander, Submarine Forces Pacific Director for Maintenance and Material Readiness.

The Trident maintenance plan objectives include all the maintenance to be performed to allow the ship to operate safely and unrestricted during prescribed operating cycles, operating intervals, and for its prescribed service life.

Execution of the maintenance plan ensures that the ship operates safely and unrestricted while at sea and, maximizing their operational availability.
