Skelton on DOD’s Implementation of Fort Hood-related Recommendations

Washington, D.C.—Today, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) released the statement below on the Department of Defense’s implementation of recommendations from the Independent Review related to last year’s shootings at Fort Hood:

“We owe it to the victims, families, and all those affected by last year’s tragic shootings at Fort Hood to take the necessary steps to prevent this type of devastating event from ever happening again. The challenge of providing proper levels of force protection, wherever our troops may be, was unfortunately highlighted last December. The recommendations approved today by DOD take responsible, concrete steps to make sure that we close the security gaps within our military. Our troops are out there risking their lives every single day, and they should not have to worry about the added concerns of their safety back at home. I commend the Department for working so quickly and diligently to address these issues and keep our service members and their families safe.”
