The air component of the “Centre - 2008”
Moscow, September 5, 2008 - Different kinds of air defence and electronic warfare units will participate on September 8-13 in exercises that are part of “Centre-2008” exercise in the Chelyabinsk Region (Valga-Urals military District).
The air component of the exercise will involve more than 60 aircraft, including Il-76MD military transport planes, Su-24 tactical bombers, Su-27 fighter aircraft, MiG-31 fighter-interceptors, Mi-24 close-air support helicopters, Mi-8 helicopters and special-purpose aircraft,".
The main purpose of the air component of the exercise is to practice the interoperability of the Air Force and the Ground Forces in local conflicts and anti-terrorism operations.
