GARLAND, Texas, -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has debuted a mobile intelligence collection and dissemination resource for the U.S. Army.

Known as THUNDR (Tactical Handoff Using Nearest Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) Resource), the new application runs on a standard U.S. Army laptop and allows greater mobility for intelligence collection and dissemination by Army, Marine and special operations units and echelons at battalion and below.

THUNDR permits tactical network connection to the nearest DCGS server and download of a complete, self-contained mission data set for an area of interest. When the information is downloaded, a mobile user then disconnects for on-the-move operations. The unit's self-contained intelligence can be viewed and accessed from icon-enhanced map displays at the user's fingertips.

"THUNDR provides an important capability for the foot soldier by giving nearly instant access to the DCGS enterprise and its information resources, without the need for any new or additional equipment," said Dr. David Usechak, senior technical adviser to the DCGS-Army program office.

The system also gives users a mobile intelligence collection resource with pictures, video and biometrics data. This allows the collection to be auto-forwarded when THUNDR reconnects to the tactical networks via low-bandwidth radio, cell tower or other tactical network hubs.

"THUNDR enhances capabilities that Raytheon has previously delivered in its support of the Army's DCGS," said Anthony DiFurio, director of Multi-Intelligence Systems for Raytheon's Intelligence and Information Systems (IIS) business. "We are always seeking to develop innovations that provide intelligence support for U.S. forces."

Raytheon has been engaged in the Army DCGS program since 2005 and continues to be a significant contributor to the deployment of an operational network-centric infrastructure known as the DCGS Integration Backbone.

Raytheon IIS is a leading provider of intelligence and information solutions, specializing in ground processing, unmanned ground systems, cybersecurity operations, homeland security and other markets to resolve the most complex problems for our customers worldwide.
