Harris Corporation Receives “Type Approval” Certification from Inmarsat for new RF-7800B Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) Satellite Terminals Terminals Provide High-Speed Global IP-based Communications

LONDON — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, today announced that its RF-7800B family of ruggedized Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) satellite terminals has received “Type Approval” from Inmarsat, one of the world’s leading providers of global satellite communications (SATCOM). Type Approval certifies the Harris terminals to operate over the Inmarsat Satellite Communications System for simultaneous voice and broadband data connectivity.

The military rugged Harris BGAN satellite terminals enable warfighters to transmit voice and information beyond-line-of-sight and access tactical networks anywhere in the world. This over-the-horizon reach-back capability further ties commanders to personnel at the edge, allowing for more rapid responses within the enemy's decision cycle.

The Harris RF-7800B terminals offer a high-performance solution for voice and data connectivity in SATCOM-on-the-move and SATCOM-on-the-quick-halt applications. The products in the Harris Tactical BGAN line are the RF-7800B-DU024, a Class 2 Land Portable BGAN terminal for dismounted applications, and the RF-7800B-VU104, a Class 10 Land Mobile BGAN terminal for vehicles on the move. The RF-7800B-VU104 is the only integrated, military-rugged BGAN SATCOM-on-the-move system available today.

“The Harris RF-7800B satellite terminals offer high-speed throughput for users in an environmentally hardened package. These terminals have been specifically designed to survive in harsh conditions where commercial units fail,” said Bill Beamish, director of Product Line Management, Harris RF Communications. “We have applied our industry-leading expertise in networked communications to produce terminals that will allow users to exchange IP-wideband data and voice across the globe.”

RF-7800B communication links can be secured in several ways, including use of the Falcon III® AN/PRC-117G and RF-7800M manpack radios or via an in-line encryptor such as the Harris SecNet 54® module. The system is designed to ensure seamless tactical network-centric connectivity to existing FALCON III tactical networks through simultaneous line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight SATCOM capabilities on the move. This capability is enabled through automated routing between the Harris-developed ANW2 line-of-sight wideband waveform and BGAN, providing secure IP data transfer capability and increased communications reliability.

Harris RF Communications is the leading global supplier of secure radio communications and embedded high-grade encryption solutions for military, government and commercial organizations.
